Anyone tried to nomad from Thailand using the retirement visa?

I know it's technically illegal, I'm just wondering what the experiences have been of those who tried to do remote work from outside employers while maintaining a retirement visa (including the 65K baht/month requirement). Do the authorities check what the source is of the 65K per month that you brought in? I don't understand why DNs wouldn't use this type of visa if they happen to be over age 50 and can afford it.
