Denied entry to EU in Finland.

So I got denied entry to EU on a connecting flight in Helsinki because they said I only booked one day for a hostel reservation and didn’t have much savings. They put me back on the plane to USA(I’m American). Apparently they wanted me to have 30 euro per day I’m in EU and a longer reservation somewhere.

Is this normal and have you guys experienced a money and reservation requirement?
